RET Program Progress Presented at NSF Grantees Conference

Associate Research Professor at CIVS, Armin Silaen presented a poster at the NSF Engineering Education and Centers Grantees Conference highlighting the 6-week National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Teachers (RET) summer program. The Research Experiences for Teachers in Simulation and Visualization for Innovative Industrial Solutions, promoted the use of simulation and visualization software to solve industrial research problems to students in high schools and community colleges in the area. CIVS welcomed 11 High School and Community College Teachers from Northwest Indiana and Illinois to complete various research projects and develop a curriculum for their students to use during the 2021-2022 school year.

The two-day conference which was held in Arlington, Virginia was a forum for Engineering Education and Centers (EEC) Principal Investigators and team leaders to learn, explore, and share ideas that will promote innovation in engineering education research and practice, with the overall theme of reflecting to re-envision. The goal of this CIVS program was to re-envision the way students are introduced to real-world research experiences and to be exposed to practical applications of visualization and simulation. CIVS continues to encourage educators to foster innovation in the classroom and inspire students to seek rewarding career paths in engineering. https://www.pnw.edu/civs/news/
