CIVS welcomed juniors and seniors from Merrillville High School’s Digital Electronics class on January 16, for an immersive, hands-on learning experience. CIVS Sr. Research Scientist John “Jack” Moreland showcased cutting-edge CIVS research supporting the steel industry and advanced manufacturing, with a focus on real-world applications of simulation and visualization technologies.

Through a few demonstrations in the visualization lab such as the crane simulators and 3-D demonstrations in the CIVS Immersive Theater, students gained insight into how CIVS research translates into industry solutions and high-demand career pathways in engineering and manufacturing. The visiting Digital Electronics class is part of Merrillville High School’s Engineering pathway and is taught by Mr. Aaron Longacre, a past participant in the CIVS Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
