CIVS Highlights Decarbonization and Digitalization Collaborations with SSAB Senior Leadership

Members of the Senior Leadership team at SSAB were presented with many overviews by the CIVS research team including a brief presentation on projects related to hydrogen hubs, which create networks of hydrogen producers, consumers, and local connective infrastructure to accelerate the use of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier. This is all part of the bigger picture in the steel making industry, the push for decarbonization of steel producing.

SSAB guests enjoyed demonstrations of industry applications in the CIVS Visualization Lab and learned how real time exposure to industrial systems through virtual reality training can reduce injuries and drive efficiency. Among the hands on experiences, is a program created through the use of 360 degree recordings that allow virtual tours of different locations and job sites.

The experience was vital to demonstrating the importance of the research team’s work as well as its many applications. In attendance was SSAB Senior Leadership: Chuck Schmitt, President SSAB Americas; Jeff Moskaluk, Sr. VP & CCO; Collen Phillip VP & CFO; Tom Toner, Director Technical Development; Sean Keenan, VP Americas Supply Chain; Ben Kowing, VP Environmental & Sustainability & COO; Greg Scott, VP HR & Communications; Katie Larson, VP Government Affairs; Michele Klebuc-Simes, VP & General Counsel; Kris Coates, Sr. Director Value +; Ganesh Jayaram, Sr. Director, IT; Brent Major, Sr. Director, Strategy & Business Development; Tom Cox, General Manager, Montpelier; Jason Pangracs, Controller Value+
