CIVS Highlights Decarbonization Collaborations with SSAB Senior Leadership

Fourteen Senior Leadership team members from SSAB visited CIVS on October 26th. They were presented with CIVS & SMSVC overviews by Dr. Chenn Zhou. Reviews and discussions were made on CIVS & SMSVC projects in various topics with highlights in decarbonization projects and opportunities such as Hydrogen utilization and Electrification in steelmaking. The SSAB Americas President Chuck Schmitt encouraged students and staff to continue impactful applied research using advanced technologies.

SSAB senior leaders also enjoyed project demonstrations using VR & AR in the CIVS Visualization Lab. These projects showed how virtual industrial systems through virtual reality training can reduce injuries and drive efficiency. Among the hands on experiences, is a program created through the use of 360 degree recordings plus 3-D computer graphics that allows virtual tours of different locations and job sites in a steel plant.

SSAB has been one of the members of the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium since 2016. In attendance was SSAB Senior Leadership: Chuck Schmitt (President, SSAB Americas), Jeff Moskaluk (Sr. VP & CCO), Collen Phillip (VP & CFO), Tom Toner (VP of Operations), Sean Keenan (VP Americas Supply Chain), Ben Kowing (VP Environmental & Sustainability & CTO), Greg Scott (VP HR & Communications) Katie Larson (VP Government Affairs), Michele Klebuc-Simes (VP & General Counsel), Kris Coates (Sr. Director Value +), Ganesh Jayaram (Sr. Director, IT), Brent Major, (Sr. Director, Strategy & Business Development), Tom Cox (General Manager, Montpelier), and Jason Pangracs (Controller Value+).
