EAF Steel Refining Modeling presented at Materials Science Annual Conference

CIVS Masters student, Neel Busa presented research at the MS&T22 Exhibition as part of the Iron and Steel technical program. “Flow Optimization of Steel Refining in an EAF” is based on decarbonization optimization during steel refining and the process of homogenizing the flow of molten steel in the furnace domain.

The Materials Science & Technology (MS&T) technical meeting and exhibition series is a long-standing, recognized forum for fostering technical innovation at the intersection of materials science, engineering, and application. At MS&T, you can learn from those who are on the cutting edge of their disciplines, share your work with the leading minds in your field, and build the valuable cross-disciplinary collaborations unique to this conference series. This year, the MS&T22 was hosted at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 9th through October 13th.

Dr. Chenn Zhou also attended the MS&T22 as a Purdue University representative at the AIST University-Industry Relations Roundtable. The purpose of the University-Industry Relations Roundtable (UIRR) is to foster communication between our university network and the steel industry. The committee’s objective is to increase the number of professors teaching a steel-related curriculum, and to increase the number of students interested in a career in the steel industry. This committee meets twice each year at AISTech and MS&T.

The MS&T22 Exhibition welcomed to the exhibit floor: The Advanced Materials Show USA and The Nanotechnology Show. The Advanced Materials Show showcased the very latest in high performance materials technology for applications including Aerospace, Automotive, Electronics, Energy and Medical Technology. Leaders in research and development, materials science and engineering were able to use the show to source the latest advanced materials; along with the scientific instruments and processing equipment necessary for the development, manufacture and processing of advanced materials.
